FUE in Curly Hair Patient with First Surgery as Strip Method

A patient from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia had undergone FUT surgery 7 years ago and had good results. He wanted more area to be covered and this time he wanted it to be done with FUE technique only. As he had curly hairs, we performed the Fox Test before doing FUE surgery on him. We took out 10 grafts and we were able to take out 9 intact grafts. So, the result of the test was positive, which meant that he could easily get FUE surgery done. The patient wanted to cover the whole of the remaining scalp. And he was interested only in using the scalp hairs for the transplant. However, it was challenging for us to do so since he had curly hairs and fibrosis on the back of his head. Also, the transection rate of scalp hair around strip scar was also more. Since he wanted to cover a broad area, we had no other option than using hair from his beard. The density of the hair in the beard was less and the hair were more curly as compared to his scalp hair. We were able to extract only 330 grafts from the beard. Thus, he was given 2340 grafts only (2010 from Scalp & 330 from Beard) by Bio- FUE technique. Here we are sharing the pre op and immediate post pics of patient.
